Event Central
Saturday was a busy fun day from attending the "Superhero for Columbia Public Schools" event to our Meet up Group's Halloween costume party in which just over 20 attended. Unfortunately the Superhero event did not make a Guinness World Record as was hoped for (only about 700 attended vs. 1500+). My "pic of the day" includes scenes from both events.

Costume
My "pic of the day" is of a part of my costume for our Meet Up Group's Halloween party that we are hosting tomorrow night. I will also be wearing my costume at tomorrow's Superhero Day for Columbia Public Schools. The goal of the event is to break a world record for the most people in one location to wear a super hero costume. The current record is 1,500 people.

Long Day
We woke up to a very cool and crisp morning beckoning layers and a jacket. I left work at 6:30 pm tonight following a long day with many student appointments.
To follow-up from yesterday's post, the shooter has been apprehended.
Roll on Grey's Anatomy for part of my recovery evening from the long day.

Appointment Central
We have now entered early registration season at work, and this one is proving to be one of the busiest yet. We have had to shorten the appointments from 30 minutes to 20 minutes in order to incorporate more students per hour. On Friday I had 13 back-to-back student appointments and tomorrow I have a record high of 16 appointments. In addition to appointments today, we received notification that University Hospital was on lock down due to a possible murderer entering the facility, and apparently he is still at large and the rest of the University remains uneasy.
In other news, Paul and I finished our 5 week marriage class at church this evening, and that's what inspired my "pic of the day" as we were told that God uses marriage to change and mold us into being more Christlike, kind of like this blacksmith working with metal.

It's Official
My new position with KU Medical Center became official today after I received the formal offer letter and submitted my resignation. Now Paul and I are quickly trying to get everything ready for a move within the next month.
My "pic of the day" is of two hot air balloons that I saw from my office window at work last Thursday after work. Notice also the faint moon rising in the lower left hand side.

Homecoming
Today I'm going to violate one of my own rules and post a pic that I didn't take. This was an aerial photo taken by ESPN this morning during their College GameDay show at MU's quad where over 18,000 students and fans showed up breaking the previous record for College GameDay attendance. In addition, it was MU's homecoming today. My husband and I were probably in the minority as we mostly stayed at home and avoided the football madness.

ESPN Comes to Town
ESPN's College GameDay is broadcasting live from Mizzou for tomorrow's homecoming game against Oklahoma. All week the students have been in a buzz about it and many are camping out or arriving at 3 a.m. on the campus quad so they can take part in the College GameDay broadcast at 8 a.m tomorrow morning. My "pic of the day" is of ESPN"s inflatable logo that they positioned at the edge of the stadium this week which advertised the Homecoming game and the College GameDay broadcast.

Preception
This evening as I was walking back to my car across campus after a student organization meeting at 9pm, I saw two female students walking - one with leggins and boots on and the other with shorts and sandals. It made me think how if a photo was taken of just one of them how the person viewing the photo would think the weather was either really hot or pretty chilly. On the contrary, it was a very mild and cool evening that really didn't warrant either wardrobe choice. While I'm on the topic of wardrobe, my "pic of the day" is of a costume dress that I saw a lady wearing at the Renaissance Festival this weekend.

Central Missouri Renaissance Festival
We spent the afternoon at the Central Missouri Renaissance Festival. So my "pic of the day" is of one of the performances we watched. This one was actually of some belly dancers, which didn't quite fit the "renaissance" theme but fun to watch nonetheless. We couldn't have asked for better weather, as it was a beautiful fall afternoon and very sunny with temps in the mid 70's.

Yoga
I've come to find that lunchtime yoga is both a blessing and a curse. It's difficult to wrap up my day enough to get to the session on time and then I have so much running through my head from the day that it takes most of the session for me to unwind. Then, just as I start to relax and get my mind focused on technique and breathing and finally relaxation...it's time to go back to work again.

Good News
I received really good news today which has the potential to be life changing. Also a running theme today in both the classes that I teach and in the church's marriage class tonight was value of self to the extent that one is not being taken advantage of. Also in the marriage class we discussed the fact that marriage is not a means to an end; but rather the beginning of a growing and sanctification process where each spouse is an agent of God to help the other one grow through the conflict we encounter.

Costume
I was able to leave work on time today and shop at the local costume shop for our upcoming Halloween costume party that we are having. It was so much fun to go "shopping" and try on the different outfits. I went in the store with one outfit in mind and came out with a completely different one. I'm not going to reveal it until closer to Halloween, but my "pic of the day" is a portion of that costume.
Any guesses as to what my costume is?

Tired
Crazy and vivid dreams last night left me feeling pretty tired today, so much so that I fell asleep off and on (more on than off) from 6 pm to 9 pm tonight. I awakened to realize one of my favorite shows was about to come on and with just enough time to shower and complete my blog. I'm not even that hungry tonight and contemplated just going on to bed without watching my show.

Office Move
After working all day, I spent 4 hours this evening moving my entire office (desk, file cabinet and bookshelf included) down the hall to my new office. The Dean actually helped me move my desk and then my husband arrived to help move some of the other items. I have a new desk "return" (back left corner) that still needs to be assembled so my file cabinet is serving as my desk extension or "return" in the meantime. My "pic of the day" is of the before & after move.

Lost in Translation
Today in class we discussed the topic of time management and the importance of developing a plan of action where one is working on important, yet non-urgent items so that one is always organized, prepared and nonstressed which helps create a work-life balance. Sometimes translating that to the real world is difficult when there isn't adequate time to prep or when unforeseen things come out at one that demand attention and take over what would otherwise be a peaceful day or evening. It's funny how strategies like this become lost in translation.

Day of Creativity
What a fun day of creativity on my birthday weekend with my mom. My "pic of the day" is of the plate I got to paint at the Mudd Room. This is the "unfired" version of it. It will look somewhat different in color and the white edge part will have a "dripping" effect once it has been fired in the kiln. After this, my mom and I went to Hobby Lobby and I bought some wall decor to update my old wall decor at home. The best part about it is that I got to buy more than I thought I could because we found it all on sale for 50% off!
On a side note, today is my 265th day of blogging, which only leaves 100 days left to reach my goal of blogging for one entire year!
